Egypt’s Second Coming to Democracy via Shelley and Yeats

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely a second Second Coming is at hand.
For somewhere in the sands of the desert
a shape with lion body and head of a man,
a gaze blank and pitiless as the sun
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it,
real shadows were vexed to nightmare by a democratic cradle
and what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
slouches slowly, inevitably toward Cairo to be born?
from Ozymandias and The Second Coming
